In the center of Medeyell the terra-cotta roofed government complex covers three square blocks. Two armed soldiers were stationed right outside the door to the office of the President. Sixty-three-year old, grey bearded President Geraldo Barreda sat behind a carved mahogany desk.

And on the wall behind him was a large picture of Christopher Colombus. With him in the room were sixty year-old Eduardo Garavito also grey bearded, and thirty-four-year-old Manda Gallegos,

a classy six foot tall Senorita wearing a magnificent emerald and diamond pin on her solid black dress. The three were all SpanishWhite, and well educated.

President Barreda spoke first, “Be seated please. Would you like something to drink?” He walked over to a cabinet and poured three drinks, gave them each one, and returned to his chair. Speaking with firmness he began to explain the mission. “Ed will be financing your trip to Washington,D.C., Manda. He will provide you again with all that you will need. You will request United States endorsement of me in the upcoming election.” There was a short pause in deep thought to speak every word sharp and clearly which was his style. “If they ONLY PROMISE” pausing again, “to send financial aid to the citizens through my regime, the people will vote for us.” There was another short pause and then directly to Manda, “You have the charm and intellect to woo the North Americans.

Eduardo entered the conversation, “Yes, we must have the U.S. dollars to win the election. The populous is very unhappy.” President Barreda replied, “ The military will prevent the Indians from voting.” Another pause. “Manda will travel as my wife again. No one else knows that she isn’t.” Directly to Manda again, “Promise them that I will use all the force necessary to control the rebels, protect U.S. companies here, and stop the coca smuggling at every port. Promise them anything. We won’t have to give all the money to the people.” He paused again and resumed very emphatically, “Swear again on your life to keep this secret. I know that I can trust you. Operation Purple Moon was a major success.”

Standing to leave Manda shouted, “Viva Charombia! Viva Barreda! At your orders!”
